Penny Miller started her cosmetology career in 1982 in Oklahoma. After a few years in the business she purchased a small barber shop in Pauls Valley known as Phase II Hair Design. With a passion for the Beauty Business, she grew her business, expanded her technical skills and her business skills and then later went back to school to learn the best methods to mentor others in the beauty field. Penny has worked and trained with several wonderful cosmetology professionals through the years, and has a true working knowledge of the Salon Business.
Once she graduated with her instructors license, she tested her methods, and then opened what is now known as Penny Miller Cosmetology Academy - Phase II. She offers cosmetology training in several different courses as well as intense Salon Business Building practices.
Penny still has a passion for the Beauty Business and enjoys helping others to find their path in Cosmetology. Her methods of teaching have been tried and true, as she still hold a 100% pass rate with her students at the state testing level.

Career Day 2015

What a Wonderful time we had with CHI Educator and Artist, Kewonia Grimes.  Kewonia is very knowledgeable about CHI Products and how being a CHI Partner School helps the student during school as well as after graduation.  Kewonia stayed after Career Day and helped us with our first Beauty Bash - Up Style Class to give stylists and educators the tools we need to help others with the latest trends in "Red Carpet Hair" and "Prom Hair" for 2015 season.  We look forward to more events like this in the future.  We would love to get salon owners, stylists, and students together for some local workshops.  If you think your salon would be interested, please just give us a call.

THIS IS FOR YOU!

Career Day is a day of education for prospective students and their parents and or spouses to help them learn about the Cosmetology Program at Penny Miller Cosmetology Academy.

We will have Guest Speakers on hand from our Partners at CHI Environmental School Program to answer questions about CHI, and other guests to talk about Careers in Cosmetology.

This will be a day of fun filled knowledge and activities to help prospective students understand more about the field.

Refreshments will be available, we will have a short presentation at 12:30, then we will follow with questions and answers about the field.  Later we will be doing demonstrations and tours of the facility.

We hope you will take this opportunity to drop in and learn facts about the Cosmetology Field, see our school and find out more about Careers in Cosmetology.

Motivation…..Where can we find it?

Look around us each and every day and we can see a lot of people, facing difficult decisions, tough life choices, bad times, and needless other troubles that just seem to pound and pound on them. Why is it so difficult to get by today? Many people have many thoughts on these life long questions, but trouble has be around us, in this world forever and more likely than not, will continue to be here.

So, what can we do to survive in these difficult times? Keep the faith, and keep trying. I truly believe that God has a plan for each and every one of us, and we are all special. We all have special gifts and talents, that we can use to help us and others to get by.

Join me this season, in finding special motivational information that we can share with others. We never know who might need a little extra help, and may gain something from the smallest of gestures.

Who Inspires You?

Today in our society it is sometimes very hard to find positive role models. If you look toward celebrities it is usually fowl language and crude gestures, if you look toward our politicians, you see people arguing and throwing a fit when they don't get their way.
So, where can our youth look to find positive role models???attitude 4

Parents, it all starts with us.

I still believe that hard work and a good attitude will take you a long distance in life, and that honesty is the best policy. There is a reason for the Golden Rule.

When our children see us working hard, sharing with others, trying to help others through difficult times, looking for the positive in our friends, relatives, and co-workers. They see positive role models at work. We have all heard that a picture is worth a thousand words, so why not give our children a picture of happy, honest people helping others.
Have you ever noticed a small child at play? Do they mimic your words, actions, and thoughts? Let us all step up and help a young person be a little better.

Does this mean we need to be perfect all the time? NO! But when you notice that you have done something dishonest, mean, or petty in front of your child, own up to it and let them know you were having a bad moment, and you need their help to be better. We all need to be needed, and we all feel the need to help others.

Let us all do better in this New Year, to gain back the values, character, ethics, and the integrity that our children deserve to see. They need us to guide them into a better tomorrow!

What's New at the Academy
Recent Graduates

 

We would like to congratulate our most recent graduates on completing their courses in the field of Cosmetology and getting ready for their Oklahoma State Board Exams.

Fall of 2014 has been a wonderful experience.  Beautiful weather, happy and fun clients, students excited about learning about the wonderful field of Cosmetology.  What more could we ask for...we have been so blessed with friends and family this year!

This season, three of our students, Morgan Stewart, Jenny Cozad, and Chade King all completed their Cosmetology training.  It is always sad to see them go but, Wow, how exciting!  The sky is their limit, with their new career choices on the horizon.  Where will they go?  What will they do?  When will we see them again?  Are all valid questions our clients love to know about our graduates.

There are so many choices for these new graduates.  In today's market we have calls every month from salons, day spas, and franchise establishments who are looking for qualified workers in the Beauty field.  Check out our last article - "2014 Update - Why a Career in Cosmetology?", for more information about all of the career choices these young ladies have facing them.  So many choices, how wonderful is that?

They can work anywhere, choose large or small salons, corporate work, or work by themselves if they choose....limitless possibilities, and earn as much as they desire.   With hard work and dedication to the field the sky is truly the limit!

We wish these young ladies well, and hope all of their dreams come true, and that happiness follows them in their careers as well as their family life.

Paul’s Valley People make it a Happy Place!

Earlier this year our students got to help us with a workshop for young professionals at the Mid America Technology Center. 100_5190 They had a wonderful time helping to inspire our younger generation with insight into what it is like being a student of cosmetology.  We have an amazing new group of students who are so happy and cheerful, and love working with both young and old. 1217111647-00 download (5)         While attending the workshop our students got an opportunity to network with several other groups and organizations from Paul's Valley, and Garvin County.

The main purposes of hair is protection from heat, cold, injury and adornment.

Trichology is the technical term for the study of hair.

When looking through a microscope the hair bulb would display living cells.

Sebum helps protect the hair and skin from becoming too dry.

Human hair, on the average, grows about 1/2 inch per month.

Cilia is the technical term for eyelash hair.

Hypertrichosis describes an abnormal coverage of hair on areas of the body where lanugo hair normally appears.

Hair follicles that are predetermined to produce short, fine, non-pigmented hair that covers most of the body are called vellus.

Wet hair is able to be stretched 40% to 50% of its length.

Pospartum alopecia is the normal temporary hair loss occurring at the conclusion of pregnancy.

Traumatic alopecia is hair loss caused by excessive pulling or twisting on the hair, or by chemical damage.
