What can we say about Eye Brows? Would you put a cheap frame around a beautiful masterpiece? Of course not! The Eye brows frame your eyes. Keep the eyebrows clean, simple and elegant with just a few simple steps.
SO, WHERE DO I BEGIN?
Cosmetology professionals are well trained in how to shape the brow in the perfect way for your particular face shape. There are many considerations to be made when shaping your brows, for instance...If you have a larger bone structure - a thicker, heavier brow is needed...if you are petite and delicate, a thinner, finer brow shape may be needed. BALANCE IS KEY! Always seek the advice of a trained professional in selecting the perfect shaped brow for you.
Most women get their eyebrows waxed, plucked, threaded, or shaped, again it is best to seek the advice of a pro, but here are a few tips to accent your brows. An extra way to add a little shape to your face is to fill in your brows with a brow powder or pencil or even a stain. This is especially important if your brows are sparse or fair.
Use a small, stiff, angled brush to add definition to the brow with a powder brow color. If you use a brow pencil, you can use this same style of brush to soften the lines made by the pencil. I prefer the brow powder over a pencil, but sometimes both are needed if your brows are extremely thin. When using the pencil, make short, small strokes the same direction as your brows grow. (You are trying to simulate the actual eyebrow hair). Find a brow powder that matches the color of your hair. Or, if you are a very light blonde, go a couple of shades deeper for added definition. Redheads sometimes have a hard time finding a reddish-brown brow powder, but there is a wider selection of colors available in eye shadows that can double as a brow powder. Just make sure the eye shadow is a matte shade and doesn't have any shimmer to it. Follow with a small amount of clear brow setting gel or spray on your brow brush to keep your brows in shape all day long.
Keep a brow brush in your makeup bag. The perfect brush tool has angled, stiff bristles that are short and will allow you to brush the powder right into your brows. When you add the step of filling your brows with powder to your makeup routine, you'll be amazed at how extra polished and professional your makeup will look.
All of these items are available at our Salon. We will be glad to help you with your color selection and even an in house makeup lesson. Just call 405-238-3426 or drop by Penny Miller Cosmetology Academy for a consultation.
Give us a call for a BROW MAKEOVER. With a BROW MAKEOVER, We will reshape your brows and color your brows to save you time. The color will usually last 4 to 6 weeks, and help to fill in and accent your brows. BEAUTIFUL BROWS in just a few minutes!!!
Wow, it's really cold here in P.V. today. I guess winter has arrived. How would you like some tips on Winterizing you hair, skin and nails?
We are a full service CHI Partner School, so we offer a wide range of services such as scalp treatments, nail treatments and facials. In the following video you will see one of the basic procedures for a spa conditioning services using CHI Tea Tree Products. We also carry the new CHI Rose Hip Oil Products as well as many others.
Deep moisturize for hair is most important when the winds are blowing and the heat is on in our homes and businesses. To properly deep condition it is very important to cleanse the hair first to prep the hair and remove any residue from previous hair products such as waxes, gels and hairsprays. After cleansing, rinse and towel dry hair to remove any excess water, then add a deep moisturizer such as Aquage healing conditioner, comb through, bag and leave on for 1-3 minutes, rinse, towel dry and proceed with your styling techniques.
Ok, so Now for the Nails. Are your nails dry, cracking, or peeling? Are your hands parched from the Winter winds, and the indoor heat? The best thing for this type of problem is a spa manicure. We start by cleansing the hands with a sugar scrub, follow with a hand massage with a deep moisturizing lotion and then dip in a warm mixture of skin conditioning oils and paraffin, your hands are then wrapped in mitts and allowed to deep treat the skin of your hands and the nail plates to soothe your winter woe's. Once the conditioning is complete we finish the manicure with cuticle care, nail care, and then we apply the polish of your choice. Your hands will feel wonderful and your nails will look great! We now offer the full line of Cuccio Nail Colors - Check out these beautiful shades!
Skin care at it's finest. The European Facial.
Does you skin need an extra boost? Winter is tough on our faces, and we all know we need to put our best face forward.
The European Facial can be a combination of many different types of treatments using a multi-function machine to help with deep exfoliation, steaming, deep pore cleansing, micro-dermabrasion, vacuuming the skin, massage and even galvanic and light therapy such as u.v. treatments to help the skin heal from the harsh effects of the weather.
What about at home skincare? It is always important to cleanse and moisturize your skin daily, especially when the weather is so harsh.
Just like the hair it is very important to cleanse the skin first, then immediately apply your moisturizer. This will seal in the moisture and help to better hydrate your skin. Scrubs are great to do at home about once a week, but if you overstimulate the skin too often you could possibly increase the chance of an acne flare up is you are acne prone.
Curly Curls, Natural Curls, Curls for Girls, Beachy Waves, Volume Curls, Spiral Curls, Rope Perms, Wand Curls, Flat Iron Curls....the list goes on and on.
So, what is the key to having beautiful curls with out the frizz? Do you want no frizz hair? Then you need -Proper Home Maintenance. It goes way beyond a simple shampoo and conditioner. When the heat rises, and the humidity is off the scale, you can almost guarantee that you will have a Bad Hair Day. If you don't select your products wisely your hair could be a disaster.
With so many products and tools out there, how can you decide what is perfect for you?
Ask your stylist! Yes, I said ask your stylist. Beautiful hair is our job. Stylists who are serious about their career are willing to stay up to date with the most current products, trends, ingredients and regimes to help your hair look its best at all times.
Hair is fiber. It behaves like fiber, some hair is soft and silky, and other hair may be rough and coarse. That doesn't mean one is better than the other, it simply means different hair types will perform differently. For example, when you want your soft hair to hold curl, you have to starch or stiffen it, but if you stiffen it too much it becomes stiff and crunchy, no one wants stiff, crunchy hair. This is where pliant strength comes in. The trick is to get the fiber to perform the way you want it to.
Pliant strength is a gage on how easily the hair can bend; how flexible supple and adaptable the hair is.
How much conditioner is needed? If you are using a quality product, you only need a small amount. After you shampoo and rinse well, towel blot the hair to get the excess water out, then add the conditioner, comb through and leave on 3-5 minutes, it takes that long for the cuticle of the hair shaft to close down again, and this will help to keep the frizz down. There is no such thing as an instant conditioner. Rinse out, and then apply your styling product, comb through and style as desired.
Product cocktailing is an excellent way to build your pliant strength without overdoing it. Selecting the right cocktail for your hair type will make your hair smooth, bouncy and frizz free.
Selection of Professional Hair Care Products
With so many products out there in the market place today, it is really hard to keep up with all of them. It is so very important to keep the hair in the best condition possible, especially with all of the new fun color trends, that can really take a toll on the condition of the hair. I, as a professional stylist, personally recommend working with one product line at a time until you know all of the ups and downs of the line, the ingredients, how they perform and what type of product works best with the specific hair type.
Want more information? Just give us a call 405-238-3426 and we can book you an appointment, discuss your needs and help you with all of your hair care needs.
We just made it back from the World's Fair in Austin, Texas, where hair designers and professionals like Anna Cantu, pictured left, gave us insight as to what techniques and colors would be popular this season.
We had a wonderful time. Getting to see all of the New Fun Styles, Products and Techniques.
So what's In?
Blended Hair Color! Color that "Melts", no harsh lines, no stripes, tone on tone with lots of shine and dimension. Ombre', Sombre', Color Merging and Melting, Color Mapping, ....all such soft and pretty techniques. These techniques are blueprints for hair color, colors that require the stylist to think out the style before they begin....Truly artistic!
What shades are Popular?
In the fall as the season changes, and wardrobe colors change, this is always a great time to warm up hair color. Soft shades of gold and copper will always be hot during this season. This year, however, we are seeing a lot of matte color, color such as granny blondes, with silver tones with blue and violet undertones. Matte colors do not reflect light as well as warm colors, but on the perfect skin tone with the right cosmetics they can be very striking.
The fun of hair color is that change does not have to be permanent. Hair color can be mixed to be a try on or semi, demi shade and then if you really love it we can convert it to a permanent color.
What about those crazy shades of hair color?
They can be very fun and exciting....but they will fade away very quickly without very high maintenance.
If you are interest in more articles about what we saw at this years World's Fair, stay tuned in for more posts. We can't wait to bring more of these techniques back to Pauls Valley.
This is from Farouk Systems, showing the latest hair styles for this season.
Wasn't that fun! From our partners at CHI. We love to watch all of our CHI Partners at work! Hair shows are a great way to get motivated and re-energized for Salon Life.
Now are you ready to see what the Clothing Fashion Designers are doing???
Well here's a preview! ENJOY!
ELIE SAAB 2014 SPRING SHOW
DILEK HANIF 2014
CHRISTIAN DIOR SPRING 2014
Didn't these Designers do a fabulous job on these fashions?
Longer jackets, mixtures of beaded fabric, sparkle, and simplistic hair styles. Center parts are back, OH MY!!!!!!!!!
Fem looks are always hot for Spring. Soft fabric flow like a gentle Spring Breeze.
Ombre' color fabrics are still in.
Short or long dresses and skirts, you choose, beautiful bead work with an eye for detail. So much fun for Prom and Weddings.
Retro Glam with beautiful shades of nude and black for Formal Affairs. Wow!!! Don't you just love the pops of color for Spring 2014? Love the soft flowing fabrics with fun asymmetrical accents for casual wear. Love these fun styles!
Ladies, remember, the hair styles will mimic the fashion. When you wear your soft sheer blouse or skirt, hair should flow, be soft and shiny. Stronger, stiffer fabrics, usually will need a stronger look such as a strong chignon. It will be fun this prom season to design hairstyles to go with the formal wear that is out there this season.
Hope you enjoyed this article. Have the best day ever! Penny
Students have loved learning new techniques in Cosmetic Application this month at the Academy.
We enjoyed learning how to do makeup for daily wear. The clients looked so pretty, when we added just a little makeup to perfect their beautiful faces. "It's amazing how so little makeup if applied properly can make such a big difference", one student stated.
"Smokey eyes are fun, but take a lot of practice." , said another.
Students will be helping clients with mini-makeup lessons next week! Wow, what fun!!! We can't wait to see what all they have learned.
